Highlights from 2008 – Part 3

Part 3: Bay Area life

The third and current phase of my life is my new general management job with AT&T in the Bay Area. Working full-time indefinitely, living by myself in an unfamiliar suburb (albeit one near San Francisco), and managing a team of adults all older than me has definitely been a challenge but a good experience.

Highlights from work include a good team of people, excellent training in sales skills and advertising media, the LDP Conference in Dallas where I got to ask the CEO a question, meeting the CEO of the advertising department, and the LDP camaraderie.

Despite the drawback of living in a suburb, I’ve been having fun exploring the Bay Area and hanging out with people, and this has made my new life a highlight. Special thanks go to:
• Su Yin, for being a big help and great ‘neighbor’
• Bowei, Anthony, and Yang, as well as Katy and Julian, for being a core group of friends
• Rebecca K, for inviting me to so many events
• Everyone for hanging out: Millie, Mohammad, Rowena, Christina, Gloria C, Sophia, Vikram, Jasmine, Angie, Tiffani, VanLin, Rebecca Z, Esther, Gloria W, Erinn Vicki, Cliffton, all of Rebecca K’s friends, Pattie, Gordon, Mika, and Shirley. [Hmm.. I'm slightly deficient in guy friends up here, not that I'm complaining]
• Kenny, Carrie, Christyna, just like the good old days, as well as all the other LDPs.

I know I haven’t gotten around to seeing everyone yet (i.e. if you’re around but not tagged in this note!!), so I hope I’ll get to see them soon. And for those who I have seen, let’s hang out more often! :)

Finally, my last highlight in this phase is that I’m glad I’m still involved with MUN in some capacity. Locally, I staffed for the Contra Costa County MUN Conference and will be its coordinator next year. I have also advised two high schools so far and hope to be involved with other local schools. Most significant, I am working with Ryan and Sarah on turning www.bestdelegate.com into a premier MUN advice, resource, and networking site, and I hope this venture proves to be successful.

On a related note, I had a wonderful time returning to chair the UCLA MUN Conference. I was welcomed back with open arms and I miss my friends at UCLA dearly. I really have to thank Millie for letting me staff and for hosting me. There’s a slim chance I’ll come back for the College Conference, but I really look forward to UNA-USA MUN and seeing that crowd again if I get the chance to go.

Alright, recapping my ridiculous travel schedule from all 3 phases of my life in 2008: Vancouver, Boston, Las Vegas, New York City, Niagara Falls, Toronto, London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Paris, Barcelona, Valencia, Denia, Rome, Florence, Sarajevo, Singapore, Bangkok, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Dallas, and of course, I lived in Los Angeles and now live in the East Bay.
