Succeed in 1st Job; network, cultivate mentors, learn, 4-Hour Workweek efficiency, perform at an LDP level: Neutral. I’m doing alright in my new job as an advertising sales manager at AT&T and enjoy my job for the most part. I’ve established respect with my team and have navigated the learning curve, which is great, and now just have to get their numbers up. However, I’m not networking, cultivating mentors, learning, being efficient, and being ambitious at a high enough level, although I’m doing a little of each, so there is room for improvement. As a related bonus though, I am now part of the Board of Directors for the Asian employee resource group at AT&T.
Travel Europe: Pass. I went to London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Paris, Barcelona, Valencia, Denia, Rome, Florence, and Sarajevo. Thanks to everyone who made it possible!
Love Boat, Olympics, or Southeast Asia: Pass. I chose Southeast Asia because I missed the Love Boat deadline and couldn’t find anyone to go the Olympics with me. I ended up going to Singapore, Bangkok, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong. Thanks to everyone who made it possible!
Learn to cook and eat healthy (nutrition): Fail. My cooking skills have only progressed slightly from 2007 and I’m still not getting the nutrition that I should be getting.
Exercise habit: Fail. I didn’t develop a habit, although I am working on it with my recent membership to 24 Hour. This has been a ‘Fail’ for many years and I really need to make it a priority.
Ladies: Pass. The pass is for being more open and for trying rather than putting up random barriers and holding back, which was what I had been doing at the beginning of senior year in fall 2007. However, it was much better situation at UCLA than it is now in the East Bay where I am more socially isolated.
Expand music tastes: Pass. My knowledge in Asian pop music (my first priority) has significantly increased since 2007. Wang Lee Hom is probably my favorite. I haven’t really had the opportunity to go into ‘alternative rock’ music (my second priority) yet though.
Dress nicer: Pass. I’ve been dressing slightly nicer and have bought clothes that are more relevant for a working professional. I am definitely not at the yuppie-presentable level, but my goal was to not dress like a college student anymore and that is a pass.
Automate cashflow or run a side business: Neutral. This is for at least figuring out an entrepreneurial challenge, which is www.bestdelegate.com.
Enjoy my last year of MUN: Pass. I had really reached the pinnacle of my MUN career through UNA-USA MUN and UCLA MUN and had a fun and memorable year. I even stayed involved after graduation, which was a secondary goal.
Continue building my network: Pass. I definitely strengthened and expanded my network at UCLA during my last two quarters, and I continue to mentor others after graduation, including through the UCLA Alumni Association. Now I just need to focus on building my professional network.
Overall: 7 Pass, 2 Neutral, 2 Fail. This year’s success rate is actually a little higher than most of the 8 other years I’ve been doing this but can be considered pretty impressive since this was the biggest list of resolutions I’ve ever made and that the magnitude of some of the resolutions (traveling Europe AND Asia?!) was huge.
